The 49th International Kolkata Book Fair has started on January 22 at Central Park adjacent to Karunamoyee Bus Stand in Salt Lake. It will continue till February 3. Book lovers have immersed themselves in the collection of various books from home and abroad. This time, the Calcutta High Court's Mediation and Consolidation Committee has stall number 325 near Gate No. 5 of the Kolkata Book Fair.
Numerous people are flocking to this stall every day. How is the Calcutta High Court's Mediation Committee taking an effective role in reducing the mountain of cases as per the orders of the Supreme Court? Along with various books, the members of the Mediation Committee are giving detailed explanations to the visitors of the book fair. Mediation office staff Mohammad Naushad, Supriyo Banik, Suman Das, and Sayan Chatterjee are handing out leaflets and books related to mediation to everyone.
Under the direction of Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Sujoy Pal, the Mediation Committee, led by Justice Arijit Banerjee and managed by Member Secretary Sudeep Banerjee, is working throughout the state throughout the year. Dr. Subhasish Muhuri, Registrar, Insolvency and Mediation Committee, Calcutta High Court, said, "This committee has been started in Calcutta High Court since 2009.
The mediators include retired judges/retired judges/former IPS officers as well as lawyers, architects, journalists, etc." It is known that cases are settled through mediation in 72 ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) centers across the state, in addition to the Calcutta High Court. How can disputes between the two parties be resolved through confidentiality and impartiality? Dr. Subhasish Babu said that a stall has been set up at the book fair to convey his message to the public.
