On the auspicious evening of Saraswati Puja, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, 23rd January 2026, the Tollygunge Marcopolo Association, based at Netaji Nagar Old Market, organised a meaningful book distribution programme aimed at encouraging education and as part of its ongoing social welfare initiatives.
Drawing inspiration from the ideals of Netaji and the spirit of Saraswati Puja—the festival dedicated to knowledge and learning—the association distributed textbooks and notebooks to school students studying from Class V to Class VIII. Pupils from nearby government and local schools, under KMC Ward no. 98, participated in the initiative. The beneficiary institutions included Netaji Nagar Balika Vidyamandir, Netaji Nagar Vidyamandir, Ballygunge Government High School, Khanpur Girls’ High School, Gandhi Colony Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Raipur Girls’ High School, Udbastu Girls’ High School, Naktala High School, Jodhpur Girls' High School and Khanpur Boys’ High School.
Upholding its motto— “Amra Shokti, Amra Bol – Amra Chhatro Dol” (Students are our strength and voice), the association provided the educational materials at a nominal contribution of Re. 1, as registration, reinforcing the symbolic value of participation rather than charity.
Members from the association actively assisted students and guardians during the distribution process, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
Organisers stated that the choice of January 23 was symbolic, combining reverence for learning through Saraswati Puja with homage to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s ideals of education, discipline, and youth empowerment.The initiative was warmly received by parents and local residents, who appreciated the Association’s consistent efforts toward student welfare.
Local residents welcomed the initiative and praised the association for consistently standing beside students and the community.
On behalf of the association The President - Sri Raju Chakraborty, The Secretary - Sri Ashok Dey, had extended their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the Principals of the participating schools, the parents and the local residents for their whole hearted support and encouragement. The programme concluded with a message from Sri Ashok Dey, that "Education is the strongest foundation for social progress, and that collective efforts can make a meaningful difference."
The Tollygunge Marcopolo Association reaffirmed its commitment to continue such socially responsible activities in the future, keeping alive the values of knowledge, discipline, and service to society.
