Bengal News Grid // celebrating Rabindra Jayanti Utsov


In celebration of Rabindra Jayanti this year, Vanibandhan: Cell for Multilingualism of Women's Christian College Kolkata, in association with Penprints Publication, organised "Verse, Voice and Vision", a day-long literary fiesta, on May 10th, 2024. 
The programme begin with the inauguration of Rabindra Kaksha, a new Tagore-themed gallery cum conference room, by KMC ward councillor Paramita Chatterjee and chief guest, artist Hiran Mitra, who also delivered the keynote address, focussing on his own critical and aesthetic responses to Tagore's paintings.


The gallery is dedicated to the Tagore's painting to generate the visual awareness amongst students and visitors . Painter Rabindranath is less discussed or celebrated in the sphere of Bengalis' cultural panorama while celebrating 'Rabindra janma jayanti ' or the Birth anniversary celebration of the iconic bengali Rabindranath Thakur.


Thereafter there was a panel discussion on "Rabindra Bhabana o Adhunik Monon", introduced by Principal Dr Ajanta Paul and moderated by Sreetanwi Chakraborty. The panelists included poets and academics Sri Gopal Lahiri, Sekhar Banerjee, Jaydeep Sarangi,
Aneek Chatterjee and Kushal Andrew Biswas.Rajorshi Patranabis, Smt Soma Chatterjee,
Dr Pramila Bhatacharya, Inam Hussain Begg Mullick etc. 


The discussion was preceded by the launch of the college e-magazine 'Sophos'. The fiesta also included poetry reading sessions, book releases of Penprints publications and a workshop introducing students to printing and publishing.
