The Dhanuka Dhunseri Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy (DD-DBCA) has proudly inaugurated its third training centre in Kolkata, further strengthening its mission to make chess more accessible and nurture young talent across the city and its outskirts. The new centre is located at the Siddha Town Residential Complex in Rajarhat, a rapidly growing residential hub.
The inauguration ceremony, held on 20th April 2025, was graced by Grandmaster and Arjuna Awardee Dibyendu Barua, a pioneer in Indian chess, and Woman International Master Saheli Dhar Barua, both of whom have been instrumental in shaping the chess culture in the state of West Bengal . They were joined by representatives from the Siddha Town Rajarhat Association of Apartment Owners, who extended their support in bringing the centre to life within the community. As part of the inaugural event, Grandmaster Barua played a Simultaneous Exhibition Match against 14 kids.
“The purpose of opening the third DD-DBCA Centre in Kolkata is to promote and popularise this noble game in more remote and emerging parts of the city. I am overwhelmed to see the enthusiasm and eagerness among parents to enroll their children in this mind game. It gives me hope that we will see future champions emerging from this region. The talent is there—we are here to nurture it and provide the right platform.”
The event witnessed a warm turnout of chess enthusiasts, local residents, and young aspirants, reflecting the growing interest in the sport among children and their families. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, promise, and community spirit.
The new centre will officially commence its classes from 7th May 2025. Initially, sessions will be held twice a week—on Wednesdays and Sundays, catering to various skill levels, from beginners to advanced learners. Trained coaches under the guidance of Grandmaster Barua will conduct the sessions, with a focus on holistic chess education, discipline, and mental development.
This expansion marks another important step in DD-DBCA’s journey to spread the love for chess, develop grassroots-level talent, and uphold India’s growing stature in the global chess arena.
After the opening ceremony Grandmaster Barua played simultaneously against 14 students and won all.
