In 1888, the Durand Cup was played in Shimla under the leadership of the army. Later Durand Cup moved to Delhi. Initially only British Indian Army teams were allowed to participate in the Durand Cup.
Later the other teams also got a chance to play. The Durand Cup champion team receives 3 trophies. They are Durand Cup, Shimla Trophy and Presidents Cup. The 132nd Durand Cup Trophy Tour kicked off in New Delhi on Friday. It was inaugurated by Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, Air Force Chief VR Chowdhury and All India Football Federation President Kalyan Chaubey.
The new surprise of the 132nd Durand Cup, this time foreign teams are joining the country. Teams from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh are joining. This year's Durand Cup starts on August 3. The first match will be in Kolkata. The final will also be held in Kolkata on September 3. Besides, Durand Cup matches will also be held in Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Shillong.
Among the Kolkata teams playing in the Durand Cup, the two most successful teams of this tournament are East Bengal and Mohun Bagan Super Giants besides Mahamedan Sporting Club. Other teams include Bengaluru FC, Mumbai City FC, Kerala Blasters FC, Jamshedpur FC, Odisha FC, North-East United FC, Hyderabad FC, Chennaiyin FC, Roundglass Punjab FC, FC Goa, Gokulam Kerala FC, Rajasthan United, Shillong Lajong FC. , Delhi FC, Boroland FC, Indian Army Football Team, Indian Air Force Football Team, Indian Navy Football Team, Bangladesh Services, Bhutan Services and Nepal Services.
