Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry celebrates its 139th foundation day !!




KOLKATA, FEBRUARY 3:
The 139th foundation day of one of the oldest business organizations in India, Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BNCCI), was celebrated with due dignity today. The function organized at BNCCI House, 23, R. N. Mukherjee Road, Kolkata was attended by members of the chamber and distinguished guests.

Established on February 2, 1887 during the British rule to protect the interests of Indian entrepreneurs, the history of this organization is also closely linked to the Indian independence movement. Among the founding members were prominent Bengali landowners and industrialists of the time. Later, Marwari and Gujarati entrepreneurs also joined this organization. Rai Budhri Das Mukkim Bahadur was the first president of the chamber in 1887. Also, eminent personalities like Raja Siu Box Bagla, Maharaja Manindrachandra Nandi of Kashimbazar Royal Family, Nalini Ranjan Sarkar, Amritlal Ojha have led this chamber.


At the event, BNCCI President Shri Ashok Kumar Banik told the media that every year on the foundation day, eminent persons are invited and honored. In that vein, this year the chief guests were
Dr. Dominic Savio, Principal, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata and
Shri Kushal Chowdhury, Secretary, Dakshineswar Kali Temple Trust.

Also invited as the guest of honor was eminent environmentalist Shri Subhash Dutt. Each of them was honored at the event.

On this occasion, Director and Chairman and Foreign Trade Standing Committee Ritwik Das and eminent industrialist Kunal Shah highlighted the glorious history of BNCCI and the contribution of the chamber to the development of trade and industry in India in front of the media. The event was attended by Shri Soumik Dutt (Vice President and Regional Head, AU Small Finance Bank), Shri Sanjeev Kumar (General Secretary, St. Xavier's College Alumni Association), Shri Firdous Al Hasan (Film Federation of India), Shri Shyamal Karmakar (Managing Director, S&IB-Tentative), former Presidents of BNCCI Shri Arun Kumar Chandra, Shri Sameer Kumar Ghosh, Smt. Bani Roy Chowdhury and Shri GP Sarkar and other eminent personalities.

Standing on the bridge of tradition, history and modernity, BNCCI continues to play an important role in the trade and industry of the country today - such is the message that emerged on this 139th Foundation Day event.
