Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata 2025: Joshua Cheptegei and Degitu Azimeraw Claim Top Honors !!

Kolkata,21st December:-
The Tata Steel World 25K delivered an electrifying performance on a chilly winter Sunday, with records shattered and champions asserting their dominance, marking a significant milestone for Indian distance running. Joshua Cheptegei demonstrated his expertise in the men's international elite race, dictating the pace and securing his maiden title in 1:11:49. Meanwhile, Gulveer Singh and Seema stole the show for India, rewriting course records in their respective elite categories.

Cheptegei's composed run, finishing ahead of Alphonce Felix Siumbu and Tebello Ramakongoana, reaffirmed his stronghold on the event. In the women's international elite race, Degitu Azimeraw outran defending champion Sutume Asefa Kebede, clocking 1:19:36, while Gulveer Singh sliced over two minutes off his own Indian course record to win the men's elite race in 1:12:06.

Equally impressive was Seema's victory in the Indian elite women's category. Demonstrating controlled aggression and visible confidence, last year's Asian Cross-country Champion and a silver medalist in the World University Games this summer ran with finesse, stopping the clock at 1:26:04 and shattering the long-standing Indian course record of 1:26:53 set by Suriya L in 2017.

The margin of victory was telling, with Sanjivani Jadhav finishing second in 1:30:34, over four minutes behind, and Nirmaben Thakor third in 1:32:02. Seema's composed demeanor at the finish line belied her impressive exertion, a testament to her meticulous preparation and technical superiority.

From the outset, she seemed prepared to dominate, leading Sanjivani by a minute at the 10 km mark and gradually increasing her lead to a minute and a half by 15 km and over two minutes by the 20 km mark. By the 21.1 km mark, the gap between her and the second-placed runner had widened to three minutes. Thereafter, she cruised to the finish, erasing an eight-year-old record. Nothing else matters. Progress takes time. There are no shortcuts. India is rising, step by step, race by race. The journey is long, and I'm just getting started.
