Kolkata, July 30, 2023: The 132nd IndianOil Durand Cup Football Tournament 2023 is set to begin on Thursday, August 03, at Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan (VYBK), Kolkata. The first game will be Bangladesh Army Football Team, one of the two foreign teams competing in this edition, against reigning ISL champions Mohun Bagan Super Giants.
There is an opening ceremony before the start of the game.
As part of the opening ceremony, a cultural show of less than half an hour, high on skill and entertainment and performed by various units of the Indian Army, has been organized by the Durand Committee till the kick-off. Highlights will include performances of indigenous games such as Kalaripayattu from Kerala by the Madras Regiment and Gatka from Punjab by the Sikh and Punjab Regiments.
The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Hon'ble Smt. Mamata Banerjee has graciously consented to attend the event as the Chief Guest Also present are General Manoj Pandey, PVSM AVSM VSM ADC, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Hon'ble Shri Arup Biswas, Youth Services & Sports, Housing & Power, Govt. of West Bengal Minister-in-Charge and Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command will be present along with other dignitaries.
After the completion of the cultural programme, the introduction of the two team line-ups with the Hon'ble Chief Minister and other dignitaries and the start of the game.
This year's edition has 24 teams divided into six groups and includes 12 ISL teams. Two foreign teams, this year will again see two foreign teams play after 27 years in the 132nd Durand Cup.
A total of 6 groups have been drawn this year out of which three groups A, B and C will be played at four venues in Kolkata, while most of the group D and E matches will be played at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. Kokrajhar is the host city for the new Durand Cup this year, hosting all Group F matches as well as each Group D and E match. Guwahati and Kokrajhar will also host one quarter-final match each. The rest of the knockouts will be held in Kolkata.
The match will start from 5.45 pm.
**** Ticketing will start at Mohun Bagan Club on Monday 31st July, 2023 from 11 am to 6 pm and will also be available on subsequent days.
