The first Bank employees' organization in the country, the Imperial Bank of India Indian Staff Association was formed in 1920, even before the formation of the Trade Unions Act 1926. And later in 1947 during the era of Imperial Bank of India, the three Associations of Bengal, Madras and Bombay together formed the All India Imperial Bank of India Indian Staff Federation at the all India level, which later metamorphosed into All India State Bank of India Staff Federation, in tune with the enactment of State Bank of India Act 1955.
The All India State Bank of India Staff Federation through the years of its existence has always thrived hard for the employees' welfare and benefits. It always stood up strong against any form of exploitation of its members. The employees of Imperial Bank of India observed the first ever all India Strike of Bank employees in 1946 for 46 days pressing upon the demand for improvement of service conditions of Bank employees and equal pay for equal work. The success of this strike rejuvenated the Bank employees and elevated their morale and garnered the spirit of unionism in them.
Later, the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation again observed an all India Strike in 1960 for 21 days pressing upon its demand for Bilateralism. In 1964 State Bank of India issued the first circular on Pay Scale and Service Conditions which ushered in the era of Bilateralism in the Banking industry of the country and since then the Pay Scale and Service Conditions of the Bank employees in the country are subject to Bilateral Agreements between the Bank Management and the Staff Union.
The All India State Bank of India Staff Federation went on further all India Strike in 2006 which lasted for 6 days pressing upon the demand for revision in Family Pension, which yielded result in securing the lives of the family members of the pensioners to a large extent. Apart from the looking after employees' benefits and catering to the issues of the members, the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation has always been on the forefront to shoulder national cause and the interest of the customers and the general citizens of the nation.
The All India State Bank of India Staff Federation duly voiced its concerns against Bank Privatization and sale of national assets. As a responsible employees' organization, the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation has always exhibited its social responsibility and have severally engaged itself in various social welfare activities.
In days to come, the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation shall invariably continue to protect the interest of its members and exhibit its national responsibility towards the customers and the countrymen and play a pivotal role in the development of the society and the nation at large.
